So our house is at the stage of painting. The idea of painting is usually exciting because of all the choices in color and the drastic change that can happen. But here on the Big Island it is more difficult than anticipated, much like the rest of the house has been. I am concerned with VOC's among many other harmful toxins that normally destroy the air qulity of a home and cause health problems. So I thought that I would be able to find paint without VOC's, why I thought I would be able to do this easily who knows. Anyway, after a trip to every store in Hilo to find the paint with the lowest VOC ratio (grams/liter) I finally with the help of Jeremy and Heather bought all the paint for the house. Yippee!!! Home Depot for all its suckiness actually had okay paint, Glidden Evermore, with a low VOC ratio.
Now all I need to find is low off gassing carpet (anything wool or natural fiber takes 8 weeks to get here) and floors without PVC or formaldehyde (don't be fooled by bamboo). I haven't even started my crazy on the water catchment system or filters. Can't wait. Trying to build a greener home is not easy in Hawaii, but I am sure that the benefits will outweigh the work and research.
In babyland, I bought Hollis the best little swing at a consignment shop. He really enjoys it and it gives me some hands free time to get things done. Hollis smiles a lot now, his smiles light up his whole face. It feels like he is much more aware of us and his surroundings. His sweet little personality is coming out.
